Adirondack Arroyo
The best gardens marry the ecological and architectural elements of a site, invite exploration, and help tell a homeowner's personal story.
The clients in this story describe their home as "North-meets-South" in reference to their architect's blend of North Carolina charm and Adirondack-style detail in their home on Lake Champlain. Land Art was called upon to design a garden that would be both beautiful and functional; specifically, to deal with a seasonal flooding issue. Rounding out the compass points, the solution presented itself as an East-meets-West garden, the Adirondack Arroyo, comprised of New York native plant and stone components in a Western-style seasonal flood channel.
The garden has handled several high-intensity rain events so far, each washing a little more personality into the stone riverbed and cascading groundcover. What a pleasure to sit on the porch and enjoy the rain.
